SPECIAL PLACES PILGRIMAGE UNIT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION RE KS3

This is quite a large unit - each lesson lasts at least an hour - some lessons last more. There are at least 7 lessons here - but when I taught it, it stretched out longer than that. You are paying for 33 resources in total. The lessons focus on the point of pilgrimage and towards the end, there is some discussion about whether all pilgrimage is religious. It focuses on a mix of world religions deliberately because I wanted to include small parts of Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism that I felt were lacking in my Year 7 curriculum. However, Christianity, Judaism and Islam also feature quite heavily. I used this with Year 7 but it could work with Year 8 as an introduction task - or even as a “nurture” class project and would also be perfect for anyone who home educates. There is a mix of tasks including group work, extended pieces of writing, research tasks, assessment questions and peer/self assessments - as well as a final assessment. My students really enjoyed it. There is also a differentiation booklet of resources for the less able which can be broken down if you would rather. There are also tasks for “fast finishers” and everything is supported with sentence starters and word frames, as well as measurable success criteria for most of the bigger tasks. The unit looks at Lourdes, Mecca, 3 sites in India, Jerusalem and a non religious pilgrimage study of the film “Africa United”. There is homework included in the form of a differentiation “takeaway” homework project. You might have to buy that DVD - it cost me less that £2 on Amazon. There is also a baseline test and hyper links to relevant clips. You could literally download this and be ready to teach in minutes. Enjoy. :)

Who Are We? Introduction to Religious Education ENTIRE UNIT

**BRAND NEW FOR SEPTEMBER 2017** This is a 6 lesson unit suitable for students starting KS3 Religious Education. It includes a scheme of work, a fully differentiated task booklet for EAL/sen students which can be used as a discreet booklet or simply printed off when needed as one off differentiation, an assessment and five beautifully created "WOW" factor lessons which come completely resourced with materials - other than the differentiation booklet. There are hyperlinks to relevant video clips throughout, which are embedded into the PowerPoints making them effortless to use. I am an RE specialist with experience teaching KS3 English, Humanities and PSHE so there is a wealth of cross curricular options running throughout. There is also a "Take Away" menu piece of homework which features 3 pieces of homework for every student (inc. SEN/EAL/G&T etc). The scheme of work is extremely detailed and features a full lesson by lesson plan and links to relevant AT1 and AT2 attainment. It also links to the new AQA spec to show how I am planning ahead with my work. There is 12 mark exam practice running throughout and the assessment is a piece of creative work which is suitable for all abilities. There are also chances to peer assess and self assess as well as a teacher feedback pro-forma which makes mid way marking a breeze. There is an ICT research task and opportunities for group work, as well as detailed individual pieces for extended writing. I have chosen to feature a case study on Manchester but it would be suitable as a generic case study for the UK. All scaffolds, word frames, lesson outcomes, objectives etc are included. You could download this and be ready to teach within minutes. Please check out my other items as I am passionate about the work I do. Thanks.
"Revolting Religion" Year 7 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION LITERACY UNIT

"Revolting Religion" Year 7 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION LITERACY UNIT

This is a Year 7 unit that I designed for two purposes - the first was to engage boys/pp learners and the second was to promote literacy and extended writing. It basically is designed to look like “Horrible Histories” as a way of engaging - it focuses on seemingly “gory” stories from world religion -focusing on the origin of Ganesh and Kali as well as the Ten Plagues of Egypt and some New Testament stories. However, underpinning this is the idea of writing to inform, writing to entertain, speaking and listening group work and also extended writing. My classes really enjoyed it and it contributed to an overall improvement in our evidence of extended writing. It was approved by my school’s Head of English as a piece of exemplary practice. Overall, there are 5 lessons so it is fairly short unit but because the children were enjoying some tasks so much, I extended the time they were given and they had longer - more like 7 lessons. It includes a differentiated booklet to accompany the lessons for weaker ability and also some extension tasks for the more able. There is also homework which is also differentiated. This would work well with Year 7 but also a nurture group (because of all the differentiation) or even for students educated at home. Enjoy.
